Melwin Lake Holm set an outdoor record when he won the SM race in 2.18.
Melwin, who opted out of the JVM in Cali for SM in Norrköping and celebrated with Abe Stefan’s hat in Panama.
– Of course that means a lot. It’s been nearly two years to the day since my last press, so it’s been tough, says Svet.
It was in Söderhamn on August 8, 2020, Melwin jumped 2.17 which remained until Friday.
Then he had problems with injuries, but he missed the day.
– Yes, I have always been seen as young and promising and I haven’t played for two years. I really had to fight mentally, so it was a good idea to finally erase that.
But it wasn’t without problems when Melwin came to SM.
– I caught a cold this week and couldn’t train as much as I wanted. But during the jump I did 1.90 in the scissors and 2.10 with no problem. Then I felt it would be fine.
Melwin took 2.18 at home in Skellefteå last winter.
Now he does it outdoors, too.
But SC’s gold was already evident after 2.09, as all competitors tore themselves apart.
Now it’s easier than expected, when the only real contender Fabian Delred has retired before the start.
But Melwin went on alone at 2.14 and then 2.18, making his third and final attempt.
Then the bar rose to 2.20, but the limit of the first dream will have to wait.
Melwin chose to exit the JVM in Cali to skip SM instead.
It’s not something he regrets today.
– It was a tough choice and the hope was to qualify for the European Commission in Munich and stay in Europe and avoid the trip to Cali. Now I missed EC but I asked several people in my neighborhood and concluded that SM wasn’t that stupid. And now it feels great.
We’ll find out how far 2.18 Milwin was in tonight’s JVM final when the men’s height final was decided in Cali.
