Lewis Hamilton gets a break just in time for the French Formula 1 Grand Prix.
He was replaced by the champion in Formula E – Nyck de Vries.
For Hamilton, who finished third in Austria last time, it’s about a break during first practice on Friday. He himself chose to hand his car over to reserve driver Nick de Vries, while George Russell chose to leave a practice session later in the fall. This confirms Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Mercedes is investing in making a good new weekend.
– Paul Ricard is a completely different challenge than we’ve faced before, with smooth asphalt, different types of curves and long straight distances. Stable manager Toto Wolff says the goal is to reduce the distance to the top even more and hopefully to take a place on the podium.
This year, all teams will give the Novice the opportunity to drive on two Fridays during the season, but not all stables drivers themselves can choose which Friday practice they skip.
Alfa Romeo also chose to allow its test driver Robert Kubica to conduct the first practice on Friday. There may also be a change in Haas this weekend. Mick Schwacher was due to receive an award in honor of his father in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, but he was not feeling well and stayed at home. If he doesn’t have time to recover by Saturday, then Pietro Fittipaldi is the one to jump.
The choice of tires for the French Formula 1 race 2022
Pirelli has selected his tires for this weekend’s competition, the French Grand Prix, C2, C3 and C4. This is a well-known and well-balanced course with fast curves and straight extensions, as well as slow curves and more technical sections. This is a very good test track and the track width is 12 metres, which means there is plenty of room to re-drive, but the problem is that there is no natural limit to the track in the form of walls or gravel pits, but it is that white line that indicates the danger of drivers driving over it – and punishing them . However, the colored areas outside the track are designed to slow drivers off the track.
Last year Max Verstappen won two stops, most of the others chose to stop once.
This year’s competition will be decided about a month after last year’s competition, which means it will be significantly warmer. At the same time, this year’s tires are not warming up as quickly as the tires we used last year, explains Mario Isola, Pirelli’s principal.
Note also that the wind can reach Mistralracán, whose name is derived from the famous French wind. Mistral It is the so-called downwind or downwind, in which cold air passes over a rock formation and then down over a low area.
Circuit Paul Ricard is located in Le Castellet, a well-balanced track with flat and technical sections that pose a challenge to the tyres!

In yesterday’s F1 blog, you’ll find a guide to the Tour de France GP on Paul Ricard and the swipe that could actually hit Ferrari this weekend.
IndyCar – Double Race in Iowa
Felix Rosenqvist comes up with a podium spot from this weekend’s competition in Toronto, and Marcus Ericsson leads the championship ahead of this weekend’s showdown at Iowa Speedway. Now, a short and unique oval with lap times of just 18 seconds and with double championship points awaits in the pot when two races are played.
Sunday’s podium gives me more energy this weekend in Iowa, says Felix Rosenqvist.
– It’s a completely different kind of course than Toronto, but we had a very good car in the oval this year and it took first place in Texas. I think this is another good opportunity for us. Plus, I qualified in the top 10 for both races in Iowa the last time we were there in 2020. I feel hopeful.
The first race runs on Saturday and spans over 250 laps. The second is on Sunday when a total of 300 laps are cut. The starting line-up for both races is decided in qualifying time on Saturday, with each driver marking two flying rounds. The first forms the grid for race 1, the second for race 2.
It’s more important than usual to get into this weekend the right way, Rosenqvist explains.
We only have one training session, and in qualifying we have two laps that can basically define the whole weekend. There are two long races for sure, but the course is very short. If you are not around from the start, there is a high risk that you will be quickly rotated. It is usually destructive. This is going to be a special weekend, of course.
The two races this weekend represent the eleventh and twelfth races of the IndyCar season, respectively.
