0-4 against IFK Norrköping was the last straw.
Mikael Stahr, 47, has been fired as coach of IFK in Gothenburg.
– In order to get the most out of our squad, a change is required, says club director Håkan Mild on the club’s website.
IFK Göteborg’s start to the 2023 season has been rocky.
Despite investments in new acquisitions such as Elias Hagen, Sebastian Olsson, Sebastian Hausner and Adam Carlin, Belovet first lost humiliatingly against newcomer Super Eta Jess, 1–2, and on Sunday with a 0–4 defeat against IFK Norrköping.
Thus, IFK Göteborg finished third in the group in the Swedish Cup and was eliminated from the tournament, which was the only possible path for the former big club to qualify for Europe this summer after last year’s eighth place – which was also disappointing.
Now Mikael Stehr must take responsibility for the failures.
Third coach fired in as many years
Mikael Stehr took over the IFK team in Gothenburg in the summer of 2021 after the dismissal of Roland Nilsson.
Stahre made his first club turnaround with three seasons 2012-2014 and then 2nd place in Allsvenskan and a Gold Cup as a result. That stay also ended with Stahre being expelled from the club.
At this juncture, Stahre took IFK Göteborg to two eighth places in Allsvenskan and left the Swedish Cup in the quarter-finals in 2022 and now in the group stage in 2023.
Mikael Stahr is the third coach to be fired from Gothenburg-based IFK since 2020.
Over the past five years, Blåvitt has had 12 different people in the club’s management in the positions of chairman, sporting director, club director and coach.
