MMA fighters charged over Easter riots – risk long prison terms

He was tried after the Easter riots in Örebro

A prominent Swedish fighter in mixed martial arts has been charged after the Easter riots in Örebro.

In the police photos, the man can be seen throwing stones and swinging a wooden club.

– I made it myself. He says in his interrogation: A piece of wood that you wrap with a thread.

Kimura was the first site to report on the highly rated MMA fighter who went to Sveaparken in Örebro on April 15, 2022. In his hand he was holding a wooden club.

In the interrogation, the man claimed that he would protest against the Danish Rasmus Palaudan’s intention to burn the Koran, and that the addition was “as a horrific thing”.

“I’m getting angry”

When the riot broke out, at least 71 police officers and 3 sniffer dogs were injured. The crowds destroyed equipment and vehicles worth millions of kroner.

According to the police, the MMA professional had a provocative role. He stood at the front of the ranks, threw stones, forced the riot barrier and threatened the police with a stick. He also allegedly encouraged other perpetrators to rush forward.

At one point, a policeman fired a warning shot at the ground in front of him.

– The fight went on for a long time, I screamed, I became angry, I was energetic, he explains in the interrogation, but then he tried to minimize his involvement in the violence.

Dangers of a long prison sentence

He didn’t intend to fight, he says, and the wooden stick was “small.”

– Yes, I threw stones, but I never met any police. I’m a bad thrower, if I hit something it might be a police car.
