She performed in front of the elite of Hollywood and toured the country and the Kingdom.
But when Molly Sanden was asked to write a song for the European Championship for the Swedish women’s team, something unusual happened.
– I’ve almost never been, but here I got a few stars, she says.
When Caroline Seeger called and asked her Molly Sandin If she ever wanted to write the Swedish European Championship song for this summer’s soccer tournament, no doubt really.
When the question came, I got a little nervous. I felt the press. Can I handle this? These are many important words and I want to offer the best pepper I can. I actually had some performance anxiety at first but then I made a few tries and felt like I was finding something.
“I think it’s magical”
Now she is standing here on sunny artificial grass with Sweden’s star Magdalena Eriksson. There is less than a month left until the Swedish European Championship premiere and the championship song “Vi: et i vinsten” will be released.
But the players have already heard it.
– It felt good. That’s really good. I think it’s magical. There is a lot we can relate to, says Magdalena Erickson.
The Swedish artist is used to writing songs and has been on the big stage. She was even nominated for an Oscar and presented to the Hollywood elite. However, I felt performance anxiety about it.
“You’ve been feeling very strong for a long time,” she says, turning to Erickson.
It gets so much bigger than yourself when you have to craft someone else’s story. How can I do it fair? I almost never got it but here I got a bit of an asterisk.
I got help from the players
Usually, Sanden finds inspiration for his texts in his own experiences. Often times the moments were tough and I felt bad.
– I wrote a lot of lines to get them out of me. Almost like treatment. Then they assemble the puzzle afterwards.
To get all the puzzle pieces to this song, the singer tossed in the words with the players. She wanted to eat the dark. Give the song depth and depth so that it does not become too bright and happy.
– That was the challenge and I felt like we sat and talked.
What are you stuck with?
– They told how they played with shoes that are too big, shirts with no name on the back, and I also noticed last summer that it was hard to find the matches you want to watch. I think this is a shame and I wanted to include it somehow, she says and continues:
Those who were before us, they did their best but now the roof is our land and now we take it further. The story is before us.
For Magdalena Erickson, it is precisely the lyrics that make her fall in love with the song. Sure, she loves Sanden’s voice too, but for the midfielder, it’s the words that make an impression.
– That’s exactly that our history before us. I think this saying is very cool because it is so true. We have just started. That’s how you feel now in women’s football. Now we’ve come to where we can just drive. Our history has now somehow been created. The national team star says he’s upset.
– Then I wanted a little hint about last summer. Now you should take back what you should have won, says the artist.
Whether the song comes home with fans or not isn’t the most important thing for Molly Sandin in this case. The most important thing is that the national team does it.
– Everyone in the team loves the song. “The song we listen to will be 100 per cent the last thing we do in the locker room before we go to a European Championship match,” says Ericsson.
