Nations League introduced on women’s side – qualifiers reorganized

The Nations League in soccer is presented by the women’s side. In addition, the entire European qualification system for the European Commission and the restroom is being completely restructured.

As early as fall 2023, the new format will start.

For Sweden, this means more matches against higher-ranked competitors.

To a large extent, UEFA is copying the men’s Nations League format, with the tournament introduced in 2019 to replace international training matches with competitive matches.

But one big difference is that the Women’s Nations League will be closely intertwined with the EC and WC qualifiers.

Starts in 2023

The first edition will actually take place next fall and, like the men’s team, will consist of different divisions in groups of four, where countries can be moved up or down, and where the four winners of Group A play in the qualifiers.

As for the women, there will be three teams, as opposed to four teams for the men.

The results of the tournament are the basis for qualification for the European Championship 2025. It begins in the spring of 2024 and will have the same format as the Nations League with three different divisions. This means that a team like Sweden, which is ranked second in the world, will not have to face the lower ranked countries in Europe.

The same arrangement will apply before the 2027 World Cup qualifiers, UEFA writes.

In short, teams qualify for tournaments as follows:

+ The first and second in the four groups in Section A go directly to EC/WC.

+ The triples and fours in Division A advance to the playoffs. Teams 1-3 in Division B go there too, as well as the group winners and the best three runners-up from Division C.

+ The four teams from Division A start the play-off against the four teams of Division C. The six teams from Division B start the playoff against each other. The winners of these double encounters then move on to a crucial playoff, where the seven victories go to EC/WC.

Also Olympic qualification

In addition, the Nations League will serve as a European qualifier for the Olympics.

In order to get an Olympic place, it is necessary to reach the final, since Europe has only three places and because France, as the host country of the Olympics, is already qualified. If France reach the Nations League final, they will instead be the third to take the last Olympic place.
