New York. Late decisions and closed lines, we’re focused on tonight’s NHL sweep.
Bitter loss of the night
When the third period of the derby against New Jersey at The Rock began, the New Yorkers were leading 4-2, but still lost 5-4 – and the deciding death blow was absolutely brutal.
There were only 23 seconds left in normal time when Curtis Lazar shot a rebound on an unusual player, Ilya Sorokin, for the evening.
“It really hurts,” sighs Isles coach Len Lambert.
Passionate fans think so too, and are demanding his resignation on social media.
Closed at night
It seems that the recent unpleasant turmoil, when Corey Perry was forced to leave the club after an “unacceptable” incident and purely inappropriate rumors about others spread like wildfire in the hockey world, only served to unite the remaining players of the Chicago Blackhawks.
In tonight’s home game against Seattle, it was as if they came together and gave their all for each other. It is true that they lost a 2-0 lead in the first half, but they rose again and eventually won 4-3.
-I’m really proud of the boys. We have shown ourselves what we can achieve with commitment and focus, says veteran Nick Foligno.
Alex Wennberg scored one of the Kraken’s goals on an assist from Adam Larsson in a numerical disadvantage.
Goalkeeper at night
It’s starting to look like this year’s Vezina Trophy race will be a showdown between Vancouver’s Thatcher Demko and Dallas’ Jake Ottinger.
Last night, the latter was forced to wear the Chief’s jersey, after a great effort in Winnipeg. He stopped 27 shots and kept his first clean sheet this season.
Final score: 2-0.
Tonight I finally made it home
Everyone on the Toronto Maple Leafs agrees that last weekend’s visit to Sweden was a success by all accounts, but they had some problems returning home. They lost to Chicago on Friday and to Pittsburgh on Saturday, but last night they finally managed to pull away and beat Florida itself 2-1 – after a long shootout.
Duldis Noah Gregor was the one Canada’s largest city was cheering on until the early hours of the morning, as he scored the only goal of the game – and also converted the decisive penalty kick in round six.
– says exciting
Kevin Stenlund scored Florida’s goal.
A little revenge for the night
The Edmonton Oilers were knocked out of the playoffs last spring against the Vegas Golden Knights, not that a regular season win makes up for their playoff shenanigans, but still: It sure would have been nice to beat the defending champions by winning in a shootout (5-4) at home in Rogers Place last night.
– The important thing was to win, we are achieving victories in every possible way now, says Connor McDavid, who scored one goal and played even two goals.
Swede Matthias Janmark also put the puck into the goal – his first of the season – after an assist from Matthias Ekholm.
Other results from the night
Carolina beats Philadelphia 4-1 (assist by Jesper Fast) and Arizona wins 3-1 over Tampa
Swedes of the night
Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators – The hottest Swede in the league, decided in the mud as the Predators clinched their sixth straight home run.
Elias Pettersson, Vancouver Canucks – Extended the league’s scoring lead in Blue and Yellow with another goal.
Joel Eriksson Ek, Minnesota Wild – Scored again as the Wild snapped a heavy losing streak. William Nylander and Filip Forsberg are the only Swedes to score more goals.
Alex Weinberg, Seattle Kraken – Scored a really nice goal when outnumbered.
