NHL player Jacob Lauko, 23, was millimeters away from being hit in the eye with a skateboard.
A few days later, Adam Johnson died after receiving a skateboard bar to his neck.
Now Lauko will use neck guards, grills and wrist guards.
Boston’s Jacob Lauko was blocked in the October 24 game against Chicago. At the same time, he was hit around the eye by opponent skater Jason Dickenson.
At first he thought the eye was lost. Lauko broke two bones around his eye, needed seven stitches, and his eye was completely swollen shut for a week.
– He told The Athletic: – The railway missed the eye by just a few millimetres.
– Blood splattered for a second. I felt dizzy after that. There was a lot of blood.
Now he’s back with an NHL team and training — and he’s doing it with a grill and a neck guard.
I was shocked by Johnson’s death
A few days after Lauko’s accident, former NHL and Malmo player Adam Johnson died during a game in England after suffering a neck skating accident.
This has negatively affected Lauko, who will now wear a neck brace for the rest of her career. The network will remain for a few weeks.
– After my experience with Al Ain and what happened in England, I realized that the danger is very great. If you can put something around your neck, so much the better. It is the most vulnerable part of our body. I will use neck protection as well as wrist protection, simply to have more protection in vulnerable areas. “I’ll probably wear a neck guard for the rest of my career,” he says.
