NHL: William Karlsson and the Stanley Cup at Märsta: “Nice feeling”

William Carlson stole the show during the Vegas Golden Knights’ gala celebration with a victory speech that went viral.

The newly crowned Stanley Cup champion and father of young children is now giving the speech.

“I was worried you said something crazy,” he told Sportbladet.

William Carlson has had a good 2023 so far.

In the midst of a Stanley Cup playoff game, the 30-year-old and his wife, Emily, became parents for the first time when they gave birth to son Beckham. A Stanley Cup playoff game that the Vegas Golden Knights would go on to win for the first time in club history.

But despite the victory, it was his speech during the victory rally that would have attracted the most attention. Now the center, who is at home in Marsta’s Pinbackshallen to show off his Stanley Cup, is telling Sportbladet about the speech.

“it went as it is”

Dancing to ABBA, a refreshed William Carlson took to the stage and really stole the show.

– It all came very spontaneously. I just spoke from the heart and it went smoothly, William Carlson tells Sportbladet.

Do you remember how many units you had when you gave the speech?

“Very much,” he says, laughing.

How did you react when you saw the reactions?

– I was probably worried you said something, but the majority thought it was a funny speech, so it was nice anyway.

Showing off a dent

After a team wins the Stanley Cup, all players have 24 hours to take the Cup home. On Saturday it was the Swede’s turn, who chose to show it off to the crowd at the hall where it all began, Pinback Hall in Märsta.

About 1,600 people were in the hall to welcome the city son home and take a picture with him and the trophy.

– That was cool. A nice feeling to be able to take him back to where it all began and show him to the public.

What are you going to do with the dent when you’re done here in the hall?

– Then you’ll be home and have a little party with friends and family.

The 30-year-old says he and his family are already back in the USA and Las Vegas on Monday to start pre-season.
