Niklas Ericsson is ready as the new sports director in Orebro in the SHL

Niklas Ericsson was not allowed to take over as technical director at Örebro.

Now he’s ready instead as the club’s new sporting director.

“For my part, it would obviously be a change, but at the same time it is something I am very mature for and it will be an exciting challenge,” he says.

Niklas Ericsson expressed his displeasure with the dialogue when it became clear that he had not been offered a continuation as the new coach.

It is now clear that he will stay at the club and replace Niklas Johansson as sporting director.

– Many may wonder and think it is strange that Niklas Ericsson has not been extended as head coach but is now the new sporting director. We were a club that had made the decision that we wanted to go a different way and have a different profile than our next head coach. Having said that, we have always loved Niklas Ericsson and what he stands for. When we started discussions regarding the sporting director job with him, he clicked right away and will be a great asset in his new role, says General Manager Stefan Bengtzen.

“I’m still close to the team”

And Sportbladet revealed earlier that Johan Hedberg, who succeeded at Mora, is ready as the new head coach and that Tobias Thermel and Stefan Niemann continue as assistant coaches.

– When asked, I immediately felt that it was an interesting task. In recent weeks it has been allowed to grow and it will be incredibly inspiring to jump into this mission. I enjoy the club a lot and to be able to continue to be part of this team and be involved in further business development is a great opportunity for me. I will continue to work closely with the team but for now I will have overall responsibility. “There is great potential in the club and I want to be involved and contribute to taking the next step together,” says Niklas Ericsson.
