Nordic mix still in 2026 Olympics – but without women

The composition of the North retains its Olympic status.

But women are still not allowed to participate.

We are very disappointed, says Norway coach Ivar Stoan.

Nordic group (ski jumping and cross-country skiing) has been incorporated into the Olympic program since the beginning of the 1924 Winter Games.

Today it remains the only branch of the Winter Olympics where only men participate.

And so it will continue.

That’s what the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided today – much to the disappointment of many.

The spontaneous reaction is that it’s sad for us as practitioners but also for sports in general. So much is about gender equality, Jdea Westfold Hansen tells TV2 and, needless to say, it’s not equal if only men are allowed to participate.

‘feeling hopeless’

Last winter, the premiere season of the Women’s World Cup was held in the Nordic composition and 40 women participated.

Jade Westfold Hansen became a champion.

She had hoped that the positive development would open the doors to women’s participation in the Olympics as well, but that would not be the case.

Now Norway coach Ivar Stoan is angry.

– I feel very disappointed for the girls. It’s a totally hopeless feeling. I don’t understand on what basis the IOC made its decision. But he told TV2 that the Pampers family continues to rule their way into the Middle Ages.

It may completely disappear

The Nordic composition was loosely suspended from the Olympic program and some believed the IOC would delete it entirely to make way for new Olympic sports such as figure skating.

Today’s IOC decision was to retain the Nordic group for the 2026 Winter Olympics, but in its current form – that is, men only.

It remains uncertain whether it will last until 2030.

– We should see a clear development in terms of the number of participants and viewing numbers, says IOC delegate Karl Stuss.
