Norway star Marius Lindvik took a shower on New Year’s Day

Norwegian back jumper Marius Lindvik has had a rocky start to 2023.

Minutes after his first jump in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen classic, he was washed out.

Reason: tampering with the competition suit.

Ski jumping on New Year’s Day is a classic, but for Norwegian star Marius Lindvik – who won Olympic gold in China last year – the day ended bleakly.

He jumped 130.5 meters in his qualifying jump and thus beat Germany’s Stefan Lehey (128.0), but shortly thereafter the news came that he had been washed up.

The head of equipment control mentioned that Lindvik’s competition suit was too big, and thus he was given an unallowed advantage.

“It’s going to be tough”

When the news came, the Norwegian appeared to pack his bag and leave the arena in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in disappointment.

– I spoke to the head of equipment control yesterday and he said they are going to be tough on this. ViaPlay commentator Marit Stop Nabelius says they fight hard to make sure everything is okay.

common problem

Unauthorized competition suits scandals are not an unusual phenomenon in ski jumping. Also during yesterday’s New Years Eve qualifiers, three jumpers got washed up.

Nowadays all the jumpers have the same material, but the suits can be sewn in different ways and this time Marius Lindvik’s suit was clearly too big.

According to Polish Eurosport, the Norwegian national team was already worried when their kit manager, Adrian Livelten, had to cancel their trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen due to illness.

And so it turned out to be expensive for Marius Lindvik.

Another Norwegian, Halvor Egner Granrod, won today’s competition with a jump of 142 metres.
