Oliver Ekman-Larsson made a real steal during last night’s game against the Boston Bruins.
In the middle of the third period, Charlie McAvoy made a violent tackle on the Swedish player’s head, leading to a penalty kick in the match.
“You hate to see this kind of thing,” exclaimed the commentator.
The explosion happened in front of Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Oliver Ekman Larsson had just cleared the puck when McAvoy came in from the other end and fired a ‘blind shot’ at the Swede.
However, Ekman-Larsson managed to avoid further injuries. Immediately after the match stopped, the Swedish player appeared in good condition again, and told the referee a few carefully chosen words about his opinion of the slap.
Investigations continue
However, there was no further action for the Swede during the evening, as he went out to the dressing room for further checks. It is still unclear whether Ekman Larsson suffered any injuries as a result of the collision, and further tests will be conducted on the Swede during Tuesday.
The officials decided after a short video review that the challenge was bad enough to disallow the game in favor of McAvoy, who equalized for the hosts just under two minutes earlier.
It’s still unclear whether the Bruins defenseman will receive an additional suspension for the hit, but Viaplay’s commentator was clear on what they’re thinking.
– There is a high possibility that McAvoy will be suspended because of this. There was no chance for Ekman-Larsson to defend himself in this situation and the puck was long gone. She’s not even in the picture anymore. “I hope Ekman Larsson is okay,” says the commentator on the Viaplay stream.
Boston won the game in overtime 3-2.
