It’s not an interesting reading for the Man United players on Monday morning, but it will be even more interesting for Liverpool.
Here are the headlines for today’s English football news.
Weekend snack: Man Utd posted
It is not hard to guess what dominates English newspapers today. Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United dominates every front page.
One player in particular has to take extra criticism. In the Daily Mail, Chris Sutton wrote that Bruno Fernandes’ performance was utterly deplorable.
“He waved his arms when he wasn’t replaced by Erik ten Hag. Fernandes, I applaud one of the worst performances we’ve seen from a Premier League player. Not least a captain,” Sutton writes.
“It was disgraceful, embarrassing, scandalous, whatever word you can think of. It’s bad enough that he’s being annihilated by Liverpool, but then you see the guy with the captain’s armband annoyed that Ten Hag doesn’t replace him.”
Not many players escape critical criticism. Before Man United’s Paul Scholes thought what Lisandro Martinez was doing was “criminal”. Then he points out, among other things, the fact that the central defender blocked the sight of goalkeeper David De Gea in the first goal of Kwadi Jakpo.
– You can see David’s reaction there against Martinez, he doesn’t scold him but I think he should, Scholes says according to Metro.
HELGENS GRUFF: Hot Joe between profiles
Gary Neville and Graeme Souness had a heated discussion in the Sky studio after Liverpool won 7-0. The latter alleged that Neville had said – when the cameras were not rolling – that “Liverpool played poorly”, something the former Man United player denied.
Then the fight continued even during the broadcast.
Sounice: Then what did you say?
Neville: “I think Manchester United were the better team. In the second half, United gave up.”
Souness: “So it has nothing to do with Liverpool playing well?”
Neville: “I think Jurgen Klopp, when he analyzes this game, will take the momentum that was created with him but I don’t think he’s sitting there thinking ‘oh, we’re back’. I don’t think he’s falling into that trap. I don’t think he’s going to let himself get carried away with that.” .
Gary Neville concluded by saying that Souness and Jamie Carragher, also linked to Liverpool, were happy with the injury.
Man of the Weekend Record: Salah is the best ever
Mohamed Salah tore his shirt during one of his celebrations against Manchester United. Al-Masry must have known that he then became Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League. There have been a total of 129 full visits since 2017.
Quote of the Week: Channels his inner Swede Potter
– Graham Potter said after Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Leeds: – When a game of football becomes pure Hawaii, it can be difficult to deal with.
It should be noted that not a single Englishman in the press room understood anything. The expression does not exist in England, but it must be a verbal remnant from Potter’s time in Östersund. Hawaiian hockey is also widely used in Sweden.
Pressed for the weekend: Moyes is safe – now
West Ham were booed by the crowd after losing 4-0 away to Brighton. David Moyes may have lost some of the crowd’s faith, but the management is still behind the manager, according to The Athletic. The London club is currently two points above the relegation places.
Weekend Winner: Plaxtenius celebrates after the League Cup title
Arsenal turned around and won the League Cup Final against Chelsea at Selhurst Park 3-1. Stina Blackstenius opened the scoring for the winning team and praised her effort.
Sweden’s Daily Mail gives it its highest rating ever, and Football London describes the performance as “probably their best performance of the entire season”.
– We showed we can win the final against Chelsea. I hope it fills us with the faith we can carry with us, says coach Jonas Edivall.
Magdalena Ericsson started for Chelsea and Johanna Retting-Canried jumped.
