Örebro’s negotiations with Gustav Backström are proceeding slowly

Orbridge. Gustav Backstrom, 28, has an expiring contract with Örebro.

But negotiations with the national team defender are going a bit slowly so far.

– We have not received a contract offer from Örebro yet, writes Backstrom’s agent Johan Altberg in a text message.

Sportbladet was present at the Behrn Arena when Örebro claimed a fifth win out of six in their SHL opener.

In the end the score was 3-2 against Oscarshamn.

As usual, Gustav Backstrom got a lot of confidence and landed in just over 19 minutes of ice time. After Rasmus Rissanen and Filip Berglund, Backstrom is the most contested defender in the season opener.

Örebro have already extended an extension for Backstrom’s back partner Filip Berglund, who according to Sportbladet information received just over 200,000 per month for his three-year contract. Many expect Backstrom to also remain at Narke.

But so far the two sides seem to be somewhat far apart.

“He is an important bearer of culture.”

Backstrom himself does not want to comment on potential contract negotiations, but refers all questions to his agent Johan Altberg.

– We have not received a contract offer from Örebro yet, Altberg answers.

Is there interest from other clubs?

– Yes, several teams contacted us and expressed their interest.

Gustav Backstrom is in his 11th season in Örebro and has been part of the club’s entire SHL journey which began in 2013.

However, sporting director Niklas Eriksson is clear in his desire to see continuity with the full-back, if a solution can be found:

We would like to introduce Gustav, he is an important cultural bearer and leader in our group. Ericsson says the ambition is to find a solution in the near future.
