Oscar Piastre driving Formula 1 for the Alps in 2023. Take over from Fernando Alonso.
Alpine confirms this – but Biastri himself refutes this information.
Now F1 is affected by a contract dispute.
Two years ago, Oscar Piastre of Australia won in Formula 3, and last year he won in Formula 2. It is the same level of results, for example, as George Russell and Charles Leclerc. But this year it stopped. The 21-year-old was not given a driver’s seat at the Alpine because Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon had contracts. But after this year’s season, Fernando Alonso’s performance for Aston Martin is over, and it is now clear that Oscar Piastre will drive Formula 1 for Alpine in 2023.
This is what Alpine wrote in an official press release, and they indicated that the contract is valid for several years.
Oscar Piastre driving F1 Alps in 2023 – or?
Oscar is a wonderful and rare talent and we are proud to nurture him through the challenging trails involved in the junior classes, says Ottmar Szafnauer, stable manager at Alpine.
Piastre was part of the Alpine Academy for four years, training in their simulator, doing tests, and was on track as a reserve driver during Formula One weekends. All this in addition to his involvement in the chapters of supporters.
We have seen him develop into a driver who is more than capable of taking a step into Formula 1. As our reserve driver, he has experienced the challenges the team faces on the track and in the factory and in our tests he has shown maturity, talent and speed.
According to Alpine, Pistri will drive alongside Esteban Ocon – but the press release did not contain a quote from Piastri.
Namely, he does not agree with Alpine at all. About an hour after Alpine sent out its press release, he denied the information on Twitter.
– I understand that Alpine, without my consent, has issued a press release saying that I will be driving for them next year. This is a mistake. I didn’t sign a contract for Alpine in 2023 and won’t be driving next year, Piastrie writes.
I understand that without my consent, Alpine F1 issued a press release in the late afternoon that I’m driving for them next year. This is a mistake and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving to Alpine next year.

It’s reminiscent of the soup going on at IndyCar, where Chip Ganassi Racing debuted 2023 champion Alex Palou, but Palou claims he’ll drive a McLaren. It will now be determined by lawyers.
