Oscar Wendt is with IFK Gothenburg – contract extends beyond 2023

Oskar Wendt, 37, is staying at IFK Gothenburg.

The left-back extended his contract for one season.

– If we put everything together, which I hope we’ll have a really good 2023, he tells the club’s website.

Two seasons ago, Oskar Wendt returned home to Swedish football and IFK Gothenburg.

It is now clear that he will stay in Belouvet for at least another year. The 37-year-old left-back extended his contract for one season.

– I want to give back to the club and the team. On and off the field, Wendt tells the club’s website.

“Need to upgrade”

IFK Göteborg finished eighth in Allsvenskan this year.

– If we put everything together like I hope, we’ll have a really good 2023. We need to raise the bar in several areas to reach a higher level next season, and we all know what is required of us, says Wendt.

The left-back wants to continue to carry a heavy responsibility on his shoulders. Last year, he started in 28 of 30 Allsvenskan tours.

– For my part, I will contribute in whatever way is required and where there is need. The demands are high and should be high, not least on those more experienced than us. I want to take on a huge responsibility, among other things, to elevate many of our young players. I want to do that by being a pusher and a player who participates and makes demands every day, in everything we do,” says Wendt.

Oskar Wendt left IFK Gothenburg in 2006 for FC Copenhagen. Five years later, he signed with German side Borussia Mönchengladbach where he became a fan favorite and got his own hit.
