Oscarshamn doesn’t want that – and he keeps losing.
Farther towards Malmö, the Jumbo collected their ninth cod in a row – although they were close to achieving their dream.
The two weakest teams in the series were facing each other.
Malmo suffered four consecutive defeats, while Oscarshamn suffered eight defeats. Thus, both teams had the opportunity to break a strong run – and it was Malmo who did so after the drama.
Ninth loss in a row
After the first half the score was 1-0 to Malmo. Oscarshamn sought to equalize midway through the second half, and they maintained their rhythm until the final seconds.
Then came the discharge.
With 45 seconds left in the match, Jan Kaukkanen made it 2-0, and with three seconds left in the match, the next cold shower came for the guests. Johan Ivarsson was free in the slot and could easily score the third goal.
Dream opening
But Oscarshamn actually matched everything. In the third period, they got off to a great start and scored two goals within 16 seconds. Halfway through the period it was also 3-3, when Gustav Westlund scored his first goal in the SHL.
The match went to extra time – and there Johan Olofsson decided it for Malmö with his goal 4-3.
“Not okay”
However, Oscarshamn coach Martin Wilander was satisfied with the approach taken during the final period, when they recovered from 0-3 to 3-3.
– Today, everyone who was trusted in the past period showed that they are ready to fight and decided to believe in themselves and not let their emotions take control, he says on TV4 Play.
– I think we are doing a good job and giving it a chance and obviously we will take this period with us, he says.
Match winner Olofsson was torn after the win.
– There are mixed feelings after that. We did well in two periods and were 3-0 up before the last one, and conceding three times there is very bad. The third period is not so good.
– If we lost today, it would have been very difficult. It’s good for confidence to get two points.
Oscarshamn is still a huge stream. Malmo is in 11th place.
