The trial attracted a lot of attention. Paul Sibeki has been charged with match-fixing offenses. The former Elfsborg player was acquitted in district court, but was sentenced in the appeals court for fraud, gambling and accepting a bribe with a suspended sentence.
Then the International Football Association (FIFA) banned him from playing football for four years.
– It is tough. I do not agree. But I’m not completely innocent, says Sebeki when he breaks the silence SVT: Talk Show Karina Bergfeldt.
200,000 wasted in 4-5 days
Cibicki, who has played for Malmö, Jönköping and Elfsborg in Sweden, also talks about the gambling addiction he was struggling with.
– In the end I lost it. I no longer respect money. There were big sums in the end. When I was making the biggest earnings, when I played in England (Leeds), I had around 200,000 crowns a month. Sometimes I can waste it in 4-5 days.
It was a yellow card during the 2019 Allsvenskan season that the prosecutor’s side meant Cibicki had to borrow 300,000 SEK from another defendant for intentionally taking a yellow card in a league match. He denied any wrongdoing and said the amount was a legitimate loan and he did not take the warning on purpose.
