Serena Williams makes her heart for fans after losing her match to Agla Tomljanovic.

Many international celebrities are paying tribute to tennis star Serena Williams after what is likely to be the last match of her career. The American lost the match – but was praised for her fighting spirit.

Golfer Tiger Woods, who was also there to watch Serena Williams Playing against Agla Tomljanovic at the US Open, he writes on Twitter:

“You are literally the best on and off the tennis court. Thank you for inspiring us to follow our dreams. I love you my little sister.”

Obama’s grit

Former First Lady Michelle Obama joins the crowd of well-wishers.

“Congratulations on a fantastic career, Serena Williams! We were fortunate enough to watch this little Compton girl grow up and develop into one of the greatest athletes of all time. I am so proud of you my friend.”

Microsoft founder Bill Gates also shared an interview with Williams of Vogue and wrote on Twitter that he looks forward to continuing to follow her off the tennis court.

“What a trip. Serena Williams leaves behind an impressive career in tennis that has challenged the double standards of both male and female players.”

Former tennis star Billie Jean King, who defeated male tennis player Bobby Riggs in what was dubbed the “Battle of the Sexes” in 1973, hails her successor in the sport.

“Her amazing career has left a mark in tennis history. But perhaps her most important contribution to history lies in the future. Your journey continues,” King writes.

“Unprecedented”

Another American sports profile that celebrates Serena Williams’ accomplishments in tennis is basketball superstar LeBron James. He sends a greeting video on social media:

Congratulations on a wonderful career. What you have done for this sport and for the woman is unparalleled. I’ve been honored to follow your journey and see you achieve all the goals you’ve ever set, he says.

Other stars who were in attendance to watch the match in real time, in addition to Tiger Woods, included director Spike Lee and model Bella Hadid.
