Raymond Sawada was 38 years old

Raymond Sawada died suddenly while playing hockey.

The former NHL player just turned 38 years old.

– I was shocked and felt unreal, says former teammate Fabian Brünström.

Raymond Sawada played in the National Hockey League for the Dallas Stars between 2008 and 2011, scoring one goal in his eleven matches.

Now the Mujahid striker is gone at the age of 38.

Raymond Sawada died suddenly while playing hockey on Monday, a fundraiser wrote that started in Sawada’s memory.

Brunstrom Sawada recalls

Former NHL Swede Fabian Brunnström has played with Raymond Sawada in both the NHL and AHL.

– I was shocked and feel that it is, of course, unreal. I think of his wife and kids and everything. It’s very sad, Brunstrom says.

Sawada remembers fondly.

– He was always very happy and a very nice guy. He was so funny and kind to everyone. He really is a great person, Brunstrom says.

“Close friend”

Sawada and Brunnström stayed together for nearly the entirety of El Swede’s time in North America.

– I played with him a lot and he was a good friend and a very good person. There were a lot of people around when I played, but he really stood out as one of the nicest and nicest people I’ve ever played with. It’s very sad news, Brunstrom says.

Raymond Sawada left behind his wife, Nicole, and two daughters, Victoria, 9, and Charlotte, 6.
