In 2026, Formula 1 introduces a new engine slate, then two Volkswagen Group companies want to enter Formula 1. It is about Porsche and Audi.

For a long time there has been talk of Porsche becoming an engine supplier for Red Bull, which won the Formula 1 world championship in 2021 and is now leading the championship.

But with responsible authorities in many countries obligated to publish, information is now leaking that Porsche is buying 50% of Red Bull. Motorsporttotal.com writes that this week, official information has been released in Morocco that the joint application by Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH has been approved. According to the application, Porsche will receive 50% of the shares in Red Bull’s F1 programme.

Red Bull and Porsche are equal partners in Formula 1

Porsche and Red Bull were forced to tell Morocco’s national competition agency about their project, which caused the news to leak. They also have to do it in the twenty or so other countries outside the European Union because these kinds of requests have to be public once they are approved.

The FIA, the International Motorsports Federation, has not yet defined the engine regulations for 2026 and this may be one reason why the collaboration between Red Bull and Porsche has not been officially announced yet.

At the same time that Porsche is buying 50 percent of Red Bull’s F1 programme, sister team AlphaTauri will also belong to Red Bull 100 percent in the future and their cars will be equipped with engines from Porsche.

The origin of Mercedes’ problems in Formula 1

Red Bull and Ferrari both came to France with modified floors, and Mercedes came with some updates, but there will be no major changes to the Mercedes concept this year.

“I don’t think we’ll radically change the look of our car this year,” Mercedes Roadside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin tells www.0123go.com.

– But I would be surprised if next year’s car looks the same.

This year’s car didn’t quite achieve the success that Mercedes had hoped for. Even though the team podium finishes twice on Sunday and the team is third in WC, they know their car can’t win yet on its own. But then what worked in the car?

Not much, says team manager Toto Wolff.

But we don’t know what works and what doesn’t. This is the big problem.
