Richard Hanisch aims to return after suspension

It’s been just over a year since Richard Hanisch’s doping test results.

A two-year suspension is awaited, which means the 32-year-old can follow his former team IFK Skövde from the side of the field.

– It was strange, but I had to turn off the emotional plane so as not to be too sad, he says.

Prior to the third semi-final between IFK Skövde and IFK Kristianstad 2021, Richard Hanisch took some form of nutritional supplement, pre-workout (PWO). It would cost him two years of handball.

When he was called for doping control after the match, the result was positive.

The 32-year-old has been suspended for just over a year and has been spending his days at the Volvo plant in Skovde and has barely touched a handball since the ruling.

Training alone was boring. But I’ll be back so I have to get through it and try to think there’s only one year left, he says.

training to return

In the fall, the nine-meter idea is to start a more handball-oriented training to be as ready as possible for a comeback.

– From day one I thought I’d be back. All my life I have been playing handball and it was my profession that I enjoyed very well. It’s obviously very difficult, it’s a long way from two years ago.

But Hanisch still has no idea which team or series the comeback will take place in.

I aim as high as possible so we can see how many clubs want me, that’s another matter. I can say what I want and where I’m going, but there has to be something on the table that I can decide on to see what I can take action against.

‘It was very emotional’

In the spring, IFK Skövde lost his second consecutive Swedish Championship final. The last time Richard Hansch was in the field, this year he watched the drama from a distance.

– It was weird but I had to turn off the emotional plane so I wouldn’t be so sad really. I was too emotional when I watched handball in general not to be sad, he says.

Several times he went to Arena Skövde to immediately support his team, but sometimes it was very difficult.

– I know what I missed and what I missed. The experiences and income was what I should have been without, and obviously difficult.
