The icon couldn’t pronounce the names of many of the players – and now skeptics are wondering if he really picked the team.
There has been a big storm in the Cameroon national team lately. Former national team captain Antonio Conceicao was sacked under remarkable circumstances and now he is the icon of the Cameroonian national team and former Liverpool player Rigobert Song leads the team.
At the same time, former great footballer Samuel Eto’o presides over the post of president of the federation – according to some influential pundits.
– Song and his staff are being controlled like puppets by Eto’o, Pedro David Jimenez, agent of centre-back Michael Negdeo, who was sacked from the World Cup squad, tells Actu’s website.

It had to be corrected
Because when Rigobert Song sat on the podium that day to present the World Cup squad, it turned out that he could barely pronounce the names of several players.
An assistant from the national team staff and the journalists present several times walked in and corrected it.
“Thank you,” Song replied after learning how to pronounce the attacker’s name, Suibu Maru.

The press conference sparked reactions internationally and in Cameroon, Samuel Eto’o is now believed to have picked the squad.
Cameroon has Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland in its World Cup group. They will go into the World Cup next Thursday (November 24) and face Switzerland in the opening match.
