Roger Röneberg leaves Frölunda – ready for ZSC Lions from Zurich

Sportbladet can reveal that Roger Roneberg, 52, will leave Frölunda at the latest when his contract expires in the spring of 2025.

According to an informed source, the Frölunda coach is ready to face ZSC Lions from Zurich, which rakapuckar.com was the first to inform.

The big club that has fired five (!) Swedish coaches in recent years.

Just over ten years ago, Roger Runeberg came to Frölunda and it was a success story. Two SM Gold titles and four CHL titles among others on the merit list.

During Rönnberg’s first six seasons, Frölunda also never finished worse than third in the regular season.

But in recent years, titles have not been available and table positions in the SHL have declined. In the last four seasons, Frölunda has never been better than fourth in the table and currently sits in seventh place in the SHL table, despite playing one or two more games than other teams.

At the same time, Sportbladet was able to tell us last week that Frölunda and Rönnberg have already decided that the cooperation will end when the contract expires, in the spring of 2025.

Zurich had previously appointed both Lars Johansson/Hans Valsson and Rickard Grunborg as head coach, but all three were sacked. When Grünborg had to leave, his Swedish assistants Johan Andersson and Peter Popović were also fired.

Currently, the Canadian team is led by Mark Crawford. He has a contract until spring 2025.
