Rögle icon Mattias Sjögren ends his career

Matthias Sjogren chose to end his successful football career.

The 34-year-old Captain Rögle has declared that his body can’t take it anymore.

“I played with injury last season and I felt over the summer that it wouldn’t make a difference when I was training,” he says.

After 17 seasons as a professional and ten seasons at Rögle, Mattias Sjögren decided not to continue playing.

– Basically I feel that the body is not suitable for more games. The body says no and the head kisses it. The injury will not go away and you will not continue to play at the elite level. “I’ve been drowning in these post-season months feeling like I can’t keep playing,” says Matthias Sjögren.

As a center, it was one of Rögle’s greatest features of all time.

In the last three seasons he was captain of the team when Rögle finished 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the SHL.

FC Angelholm won their first playoff last season and lost the SC final against Växjö 4-1 in matches.

Mattias Sjögren’s last match was SM’s sixth semi-final match against Färjestad this spring.

– It wasn’t sad yet. I try to see the positives I was a part of, look at my career and the level I was able to play at. I was able to try out different tournaments, I was able to play in the national team and play big matches. This is how I want to summarize it. I don’t think about what would happen if I continued, but I am proud of the career I had and been able to try, says Matthias Sjögren.
