Swedish goaltender Samuel Ersson nearly shut out as Philadelphia beat Buffalo 5-1, ending the team’s three-game losing streak.

Philadelphia goalie Carter Hart was injured in the last game against Buffalo and will be out until further notice. So, it was 24-year-old Samuel Ersson from Falun who stood between the posts when the two teams met again on Saturday night.

Philadelphia more or less beat Buffalo and actually led after the first half by a score of 3-0. In the second period, Garnet Hathaway made it 4-0.

Only in the third period was Buffalo able, through Finnish Henry Jokiharjo, who scored his first goal this season, to create a hole in Ersson’s goal against Philadelphia.

“It was a bad period”

But Buffalo didn’t come close. In the twelfth minute of the third period, instead, Bobby Brink scored 5-1 for Philadelphia, which was also the final score.

Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said after the game that he loves his team, even though before last night’s win they were on a three-game losing streak.

– I know we went through a bad period and lost some matches, but I love our team. I like balance in the team. We will have difficulties along the way this year, but I like the attitude of the team whether we win or lose. “I think everyone contributes,” Tortorella said.
