SHL: Ty Rattie talks about fan anger in Timrå: “A fun thing”

TIMRÅ. Ty Rattie was one of the biggest stars when Timrå managed to stay in the SHL last season.

Now the standing audience was wild as the Canadian celebrated Linkoping’s goal by cheering against them.

– I don’t want them to be offended, because I love them so much and it was the most impressive thing, says the 29-year-old striker.

Ty Rattie tied against Timrå and scored his first goal for Linköping.

– It was a bad shot, sometimes you gotta get lucky and it bounced off the goalkeeper and went in. Tai Rati says: It was good to score a goal and it was a special thing to do so.

The home crowd was really upset when Ty Rattie celebrated by throwing himself in front of the Plexiglas and cheering on the short side.

It was just fun, they meant a lot to me and my family last season and are among the loudest in the league. I had so much fun here and now I have to score against them, its crazy how hockey works sometimes, says Tai Rati.

“Only you have love”

Do you understand that the fans were upset when they celebrated in this way?

It was a pleasure to put the discus in when the team had problems hitting the goal. I know how passionate they are and what this team means to them, it’s always a special thing to come back to where you’ve played before. Nothing was left behind and not something I regret, I was mostly happy to score when we had such big problems. I have nothing but love for the fans, the city and the team here.

Third loss in a row

Timrå finally won 3-1 and Linköping now has three straight losses in the SHL opener.

– We are going through a very difficult time. We had scoring chances in this match, but their goalkeeper and defense did really well. We have to get the scorer on the wand, says Ty Rattie, and it’s important to keep being positive and it’s a long season.

Next up for Linköping, Färjestad awaits at home on Saturday afternoon for the fourth game in eight days.
