Uppsala. Elfsborg needed three points to anchor at the top.
But Sirius shocked the guests at the Studentnas.
It’s hard, the air is coming out of us, says Simon Strand.
Elfsborg was eight points in Allsvenskan with seven points to lead AIK before meeting with Sirius. So there were three important points at stake for the away team.
Elfsborg also started well, but Sirius got more and more into the match and created many situations.
But Elfsburg had the best chance in the first half. With the quarter-finals remaining until the end of the first half, Andre Roemer hit a cunning shot into the post, and in return Jesper Oakels was free, but Tommy Faiho was responsible for a great save.
Kwaku’s top scorer
Sirius had a ball inside ten minutes before halftime, but Christian Kwaku loomed for offside.
But in the second half he would have scored his goal. Adam Helburg scored for Kwaku, who hit the ball between Johan Larsson’s legs and entered the goal in the 57th minute.
We go too far on the left and get frustrated because they broke our attack. They come two against two and a chip for Kwaku. I’m just trying to slow it down and it ends up between my legs. It should be better done and I’ll take it on my coat, Larson says.
“I can not lie”
Six minutes later, Aaron Bjarnason increased 2-0. Elfsborg chased the reduction, but it never came close.
– It’s tough. It looks like we have a lot of chances to score goals, but don’t put them there. In the second half, they got two positions and put both in there, it’s tough and the air is out of us of course, says Simon Strand.
Elfsborg is now ninth in the table, still seven points behind AIK.
– The season is long, this season is just starting. Obviously we want those wins, but the season is long. We have to fight. There is just to work harder and win all the remaining matches.
Larson is on the same path.
It’s not possible to lie like that and lie that we’re number one, but there are a lot of matches left and a lot can happen. That’s what it is, he says.
Norden Gerzic, left back, criticized Elfsburg after the match. The Discovery expert said he doesn’t think he’s ever seen Larson “so bad”.
– It’s up to everyone to judge, it’s totally fine with me. I’ve been involved for so long that I know people think differently. I respect that. I don’t know how many matches he’s watched with me, I might have been worse, but it wasn’t a huge effort, says Larson himself.
