Six away players in Växjö upset HV71 in the SHL’s final round

Brynäs has a theoretical chance of three points and 16 goals.

Then Växjö will come to Gävle without their six regular players.

Could it be the sudden turn that creates the drama and be a slap in the face for HV71?

HV71 has a three-point, 16-goal record on the sidelines of Brynäs during the playoff stage before the final round in the SHL.

On Thursday evening, HV71 plays away against Oskarshamn and Brynäs at home against Växjö.

Växjö then travels north to Gävle without six of its leading players.

Two new injuries

Defenders Lucas Bengson and Keegan Lowe are missing, as well as forwards Kali Kosila, Dan Sexton, Hugo Gustafsson and Martin Lundberg.

Dan Sexton has missed the last seven games and Kali Kosella has missed the last six.

When Växjö won 2-1 at home against Linköping on Tuesday night, Hugo Gustafsson and Martin Lundberg were both injured.

Star back-up Lukas Bengtsson and fellow back-up Keegan Lowe are staying at home for personal reasons.

– Neither “Marre” nor “HG” will play against Brynäs. I don’t have anything else to say about that. We don’t have a good answer because both are still under investigation. After the weekend, it’s easier to see where they are, Växjö coach Jørgen Johnson tells Smålandsposten.

Player born in 05 replaces

Instead, 17-year-old Jakub Stansl and 20-year-old Oskar Cederqvist came in as strikers and Ludwig Klisson and Emil Krubić at full-back to play with twelve forwards and six full-backs.

– It looks the way it is. I don’t think much of it. Two of the men are in the house and the other four. We control two of our injured strikers, two we don’t have complete control over, and it’s not that they won’t train already on Monday or that they will. We simply have to see where that goes, says Jörgen Jönsson.

Tabeletta Växjö follows up on series victory, main field advantage in the entire SM Qualifier and check of the SEK 800,000 prize.

They have a three-point lead but a nine-goal goal difference worse than second-placed Skelleftea, who face Örebro at home.

The team that ends up below the qualification mark must face Malmö in a best-of-seven game to remain in the SHL.
