Skellefteå beat Rögle in overtime in the SHL Playoffs

SKELLEFTEÅ. Albin Sundsvik was the hero of yesterday’s Skelleftea match – against Rugley.

Club he is ready for next season.

– Do not comment on it. I play at Skellefteå AIK, says the 21-year-old.

It was a two-face match at Kraft Arena on Friday night.

Rögle got the nickname Skellefteå in the first period and there were wrestling matches in each half, a tactic Färjestad had also used a year earlier when they knocked out Skellefteå in the quarter-finals.

Rögle led 0-2 and presented the match in a small box. There was nothing to say about the home team. And when Pär Lindholm was sent off with 12 minutes left in the game, most people believed in 0-3 and the curtain.

But Skellefteå boxing specialist Albin Sundsvik wanted it differently. The puck bounced wildly and eventually got an open path to Rögle’s goal and tipped the ball up with a backhand kick.

He was beautiful with the goal. We got energy in the group and in the whole barn. The disk bounced off so I was free. He didn’t think much but waved a backhand, says the scorer.

The roof was raised, almost anyway, in the arena after which Skellefteå ground below Rögle.

– We prepare in the third period and get dividends for the hard work we have done. We feel strong. It’s a small detail, but we’re getting straighter and stronger, Sundsvik analyzes the change of the match.

The game presented two sides. Sundsvik’s season has done just that, too. Only three goals in the regular season and now that many goals in the playoffs, five games. And every time Sundvik scored, Skellefteå beat Rögle in the quarter-finals.

– We’ve had a good spin in our series with Melker Carlson and Linus Lindstrom. We work hard and Linus and Melker are two players who give me energy.

The goal means Rögle is now 60 minutes away from leaving the playoffs. And the fact that Sundvik is the one who pushed Rögle out is a bit interesting since he is said to be ready for Rögle next season, information Expressen had previously told about.

The 21-year-old takes the season’s silly meal in stride and answers in mundane style:

– Do not comment on it. I play at Skellefteå AIK, says the 21-year-old.
