The pulse is high in Skellefteå ahead of the city’s first SC hockey final since 2018.
It can be found at a local grocery store.
– We hope someone in Växjö will invite us to dance, says Alexander Bjork of Ica Kvantum Skellefteå.
When Skellefteå AIK is in the SM final, it means the city’s Ica Kvantum shop has a chance to take on a treasured tradition.
Opponent Växjö Lakers have already had a few steals ahead of the final series, which begins on Saturday.
“There’s almost an expectation that we’ll do something when you’re SC final,” says starter Alexander Björk, now a context veteran.
He adds sarcastically:
– Now it was a few years ago and it’s even more difficult when there isn’t much hockey culture in opposition.
Ica Kvantum Skellefteå showed on his Facebook page the taunts of opponents.
– We hope someone in Växjö will invite us to a dance, maybe the Ica shop, says Alexander Björk.
He talks about satire
His shop now has, among other things, a sign with the text: “Our signs are in English. So even the playing Växjö team understands.”
“We’ve invested a lot in food from different countries, so if a player’s bus wants to stop by our shop, they are welcome to see our collection,” says Björk.
Isn’t it a bit offensive to have a car park so small with the text ‘Reserved parking for Växjö supporter bus’ when Skellefteå isn’t a club known for always filling its hall?
– Maybe we’ve had good coverage this year with people in the stands and if you look at the outside support, I think the Skellefteå section has been well filled even for the away matches.
– Hopefully (the parking lot) will be put to good use, but I think we’ve customized its dimensions too much in reality. I think we’ll see as the series goes on if we can cut it back, I think we started off a little bit optimistic.
