Athletics championships are approaching this summer.
WC finished in Eugene last weekend.
Today, the JVM is starting in Cali, Colombia, and it’s time for women’s discus counterpart Mondo Duplantis to introduce himself.
Emma Srala, 17, is one of Sweden’s two favorite gold candidates.
Emma has the exact same background as Mundo.
She was born and raised in the United States with an American father (Scott) and a Swedish mother (Anna) who transferred to college.
Emma was born with double strokes and developed a talent for discus throwing.
And when it came time to choose, I did just like Mondo.
She chose Sweden and a lot because Mundo did so a few years ago.
She now tops the annual World’s Best List ahead of the junior tournament, with her latest Swedish junior record set at 56.38.
She made her national debut with 11th place in the JEM in Tallinn last summer.
Now it is a favourite.
Tops the list so far
Another favorite for gold is decimal player Jacob Thelander.
The nineteen-year-old from Ljungby leads the annual best in the world list by a wide margin with 7,823 points and a full 200 points ahead of runner-up Pol Ferrer of Spain.
And he’s not the only Swedish nude in Cali.
Elliot Duffert of Tureberg also took a place, although it had nothing to do with the medal fray.
But decathlon has suddenly grown into a major Swedish sport.
It was a while ago.
By the way, the decathlon starts the whole tournament, with C More broadcasting live from Colombia.
Sweden has a squad of 20 active in place in Cali.
Big difference compared to last summer, when only three active members were allowed to go to Nairobi, Kenya.
But the result at that time was insanely good.
Three gold medals in three events, which could have been his fourth if Oscar Edlund hadn’t washed up in the 400 hurdles final.
Maja Åskag won the gold in both the long and triple steps and Gabriel Wallmark won the men’s three steps.
There will be no such gains this time.
