Support Frida Carlson in training – button on the arm

THURSBY. The button on the arm provides support for Frida Carlson in everyday life.

The skater, who has faced challenges with his nutritional balance, measures his blood sugar level around the clock.

– It’s like a safety net, she says.

A small round button on one of the ski star’s arms draws attention to itself.

Frida Carlson They are accustomed to the sticky bloat that constantly measures the level of glucose in the body. You scan the transmitter with the phone and you get a value.

Diabetics use this method, but in Frida Carlson’s case, the goal is to control whether she gets the energy to absorb all the heavy workouts. During her senior career, the 23-year-old went through periods when she suffered from nutritional deficiencies and was suspended from competitions for health reasons.

If you do a hard interval session, you can tell if I’m not satiating enough carbohydrates because the value goes down at night, notes Frieda Carlson.

– If she is empty and has no energy, she will break her body, points out her coach, Pere Nelson.

“He has a good understanding”

The skating star started using the button last year, but has been more keen on it this summer.

– This year I’ve been doing it almost all the time. It falls off after about two weeks, and then you have to wear a new one. In the past, I’ve done it sporadically, she says and continues:

– I learned very well how much I need a good grasp and understanding.

When Sportbladet met Frieda Carlson at Torsby last week, she was in a great mood. Training outside the national team went well this summer without setbacks. It was different a year ago, when the distance star had to cancel her figure skating competitions because she was tired.

“I haven’t had any injuries or had to modify anything and I feel like I’ve developed the parts I focused on,” she says.

Close to personal record

A rule of lower intensity and a broader basis in training is an interpretation. Another reason is the control developed by Frieda Carlson and her team.

I measure sleep, glucose and exercise, then estimate every day to be able to see many parameters. If a part looks a little weird, it might not mean much, but if several factors start to signal, it’s a wake-up call, she says.

She estimates the blood glucose meter on the arm, which is concrete.

– It’s like a safety net. But I don’t have to control my training accordingly, I have my rule that I know works. I have standard sessions that I run at home. My intervals are so good that I don’t want to change them and so I have time to go see very well where I am on a model scale, says Frida Carlson, who is putting a toilet in her sight this winter.

And although the intensity of summer training is lower compared to last year, the level is already good.

– We had a running test recently and it was exciting. Last year she was incredibly strong in the summer and broke a personal record, and that’s been on par with that so far despite a different form of training, says Bear Nelson.
