Sweden beat Finland in 2023 World Cup qualifiers

Sweden won big in the last match of the World Cup qualifiers.

Lena Hurtig was responsible for the dream match when Sweden defeated Finland 5-0 in Tampere.

Sweden was already ready for the 2023 World Cup, but captain of the national team Peter Gerhardsson had the opportunity to try new things in the final match of the qualifiers.

It was also a comfortable victory on home soil of Finland when a very offensive team changed the tactic. The attacking trio (Aslani – Blacksteinius – Hurtig) was besieged by the attacking wingers Fridolina Rulfo and Olivia Shaw, who played as full-back in the match that Sweden won 5-0.

Dream Match by Hurtig

Stena Blackstein gave Sweden the lead with a free kick in the 17th minute.

– It was fun, of course. There were a few goals not allowed in EC, so it was fun to come here and score a goal, says Blacksteinius at SVT.

Lena Hurtig scored the best goal of the match after just ten minutes.

Hurtig had to drive the ball undisturbed in the attacking half before deciding to shoot outside the penalty area. The kick was superb and the ball was just out of reach of Tinja-Riikka Korpela in the net.

In the second half, Sweden suffered and were two substitutes behind the third and fourth goals.

The group won by a wide margin

Jonah Anderson hit the corner to score for Linda Sembrandt 3-0 and Rebecca Blomqvist made it 4-0. Blomqvist twisted the ball to himself in the penalty area and scored the last goal of the match.

In the extra last minute, Fridolina Rulfo also scored and Sweden won 5-0.

The World Cup qualifiers are now over and Sweden have won seven of their eight matches. The only point loss came in the second leg match against Ireland, Group B.

The World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand next summer.
