Sweden loses to the USA – it can wait for the quarterfinals

The USA won 4-3 and took home the group win.

Tre Kronor finishes second – but evades nightmare opponent Canada in the quarterfinals.

Now you are waiting for the Czech Republic or Latvia.

Conditions were simple for the final round in Group A. Trey Kronor needed to beat the USA to beat the team and come back with a group win.

This was not the case.

The United States won a chaotic game with plenty of dismissals – and Swedish double hits – 4-3 after overtime.

Swedish pickup

This is a great after drama. When the USA scored 4-1 in the third period, most people thought the game was over – but the goal was challenged by the Swedish coaches.

It was determined to be offside and the goal was ruled out. Tre Kronor in turn raised the score to 3-3 in the final minutes through goals from Leo Karlsson, his second of the match, and Timothy Lillegren.

But the USA took the lead in overtime and Dylan Samberg decided. It is Tre Kronor’s first loss in the tournament after six straight wins.

– The United States wins quite fairly, says Mikael Renberg at SVT.

He may have to fly to Riga

Second place means Tre Kronor will face third place in Group B in the quarter-finals. This place is currently occupied by the Czech Republic – which today lost to Canada (1-3), which, in turn, took second place.

Thus, Tre Kronor will meet the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals in Tampere – unless Latvia takes on Switzerland, who are already the clear winners of Group B. You will play in Riga.
