When the awards ceremony ended, NHL.com played an audio file of the 24-year-old Maple Leafs player. It included a tribute from Swedish club legend Mats Sunden.
– I just want to congratulate you on a great season. I’ve seen you grow as a player at Maple Leafs in recent years. Congratulations on winning the best award in my opinion in the Hart Cup. What an achievement. Good luck in the future. “I hope we see each other later,” Sunden said in the audio message according to NHL.com.
Matthews was at least happy when he heard Sunden’s words.
