A new plan could take shape in the English divisions.
The Premier League is considering canceling several rounds of the FA Cup and scrapping the League Cup altogether for clubs that play in European competitions.
The proposal should open up to smaller clubs and make room for bigger clubs in England.
Premier League He has a long history of picking up two trophies while he continues to play in the league.
But now the old system can be abolished.
At Wednesday’s Premier League shareholder meeting, a new plan – which could come into force as early as the 2024/25 season – will be discussed, according to The Times.
Fewer cup matches – more international focus
The newly formed plan wants the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup to be removed entirely and the League Cup to be played only for clubs that are not in any European competition such as the Champions League, Europa League or Europa League.
The proposal also includes several changes to the calendar as part of an agreement to distribute additional funds to Premier League clubs and teams in England’s lower divisions, and to change parachute payments when a team from the Premier League is relegated.
The reason is that the Premier League wants to free up space in the crowded match calendar, while more money will flow into England’s lower divisions.
More competition in cups
Clubs participating in European competitions will either not compete in the League Cup or operate an under-21 team.
The EFL has not been contacted about the plan.
