Kenya’s Amos Kipruto won the Gothenburg race.
But the Scarbart family grabbed the headlines.
With his four children in a custom-made pram, father Johan pushed the family forward – to a world record.
Tens of thousands of runners started when they were classic Göteborgsvarvet Decide in rainy Gothenburg on Saturday.
In the midst of the crowd, a 40-year-old father of four stood out.
Johan Scarbratt ran the 21-kilometre race in a time of 1:34 – the same time he pushed his four children in a custom-made pram.
The strange images were noticed by Göteborgs-Posten who spoke to the main character himself after the race.
Certified world record
Scarbratt says he and Mrs. Hanna have heard of the Guinness Book of Records before. They were then told that there was no “official world record for a half marathon for four kids”.
But there is now.
The Guinness Book of Records declared that a family could claim the record if they ran the race for less than two hours, which Johann Scarbratt did by a good margin.
Weighs 80 kg
According to Johan, the stroller with the four children – a pair of twins – weighed 80kg, and he says it was tough on steep slopes, but all the easier to get off.
– I think the kids thought it was fun. They had a thousand questions. In normal cases, you can answer yourself, but now we’ve set a record, he tells the family doctor.
Mrs. Hanna was accompanying his house next door.
– I had to fight to catch up on my knees, even though I wasn’t the one with the wagon, she says.
Kenya’s Amos Kipruto won the race in the men’s category with a time of 1.00.50.
In the women’s competition, Ethiopian Tegest Asefa won with a score of 1.08.20.
