Arima coach Javier Roca spoke on Sunday of the horrific scenes after the match against Persebaya.
– When I came back from the press conference, I learned of the tragedy. The players returned with the victims in their arms. The worst part was when they got there to be treated by our team doctor. 20 people got there and four died. He told Spain’s Cadena Ser that the fans died in the arms of the players.
Save a child – I broke his leg
Indonesian news portal Detik draws attention to another story from yesterday.
“In the shadow of Kanjuruhan’s tragedy lies a great story with a hero.” Ditik writes.
Mohamed Revo Sebtien, Arima FC fan, broke his left leg while rescuing a four-year-old boy.
This is what Revo’s father Faisal tells us, who says his son is still in the hospital.
– When the police fired tear gas into the stands, the spectators panicked and sought to get out. Then my son saw a four- or five-year-old boy who had lost his parents. According to Detik, Faisal said he tried to save the little boy by holding him.
I got stomped
In the ensuing chaos, Revo fell to the ground. He was run over and injured, causing the child to fall.
Faisal says the son, who has a broken leg, is still trying to save the child despite people crowding on him.
They have lost each other and Faisal does not know how the child that Revo saved ended up.
– But I hope he’s also safe, he says.
