AIK Hockey is taking more action than they really want to avoid similar scenes that occurred during the soccer derby.
– We were hoping for a “horseshoe” in the arena, Thomas Loew, AIK’s director of security, tells Sportbladet.
Chaotic scenes during the Stockholm ice hockey derby previously affected hockey matches between AIK and Djurgården.
But that was a long time ago and when the teams were facing each other for the first time this season in Olsvenskan hockey, the situation was a little different.
The raucous soccer derby between Djurgården and AIK on October 16 began discussions about having outside fans in the stands when they play hockey against each other on November 2.
After he was first suspended, Djurgårdare, a fan, was allowed away in the match.

Plans to “get out of trouble”
In order to prevent scenes of chaos inside the stands of the Avicii Arena, the home team AIK planned a series of measures.
– We have achieved what we want financially and we have to remove some problems.

– In order not to get a large increase in security guards, we have to eliminate the problem with the help of an additional fence. Then I still have a feeling that … this particular derby, the fans know that if something happens, there will probably be no more derby fans this season. So I think it will work fine.

– We were hoping for a “horseshoe” in the ring. Normally, you normally close the far ceiling and thus have like a “horseshoe” open for your fans. This would not be the case now. Both heels will be locked. You will not be able to move up or down the floors.

In the Stockholm derby of football where scenes of mayhem occurred in the stands (AIK-Hammarby and Djurgården-AIK) this season, fans at home fled to the outdoor sections on both occasions.
– It won’t work now. You’ll have trenches at the heels and the doors will be locked, so if you go into one of the entrances, that’s the only place you’ll be able to get to.
Twelve years ago, the case was different. Then the supporters of the two teams fought each other inside the stands at Avicii Arena (then called the Globe).
– At that time we didn’t have trenches, but then it was just chewing. They broke into the cloth and made their way straight through. When we then started pushing the bleachers in and getting the trenches, it made a huge difference.
AIK-Djurgården will play on Wednesday 2 November with kick-off time of 19.00.
