Can the dominant this year reverse the negative trend on the Ferrari track at home?
The stands at Monza are usually red as they were orange during the last round in the Netherlands. Formula 1 at Monza is Ferrari’s pinnacle, but the team hasn’t won on its home track since 2019 and after a good start to this year’s season, the team is nothing but a title contender. Before racing on the Italian high-speed circuit, the team should hold off Mercedes, who is chasing second place in the constructors’ championship, and not look to take the championship lead in either championship.
Instead, Max Verstappen, Red Bull, is everyone’s favourite. It is he who has never stood on the podium at Monza.
– I know why, he says calmly at the press conference in front of the Italian Grand Prix.
– We’ve always been very slow on the straight, so it’s only natural that the car is not good here. Also, I had technical issues on this track and had to take the engine penalties, so it wasn’t a completely successful weekend in Italy.
Could Verstappen claim his first F1 win at Monza?
Over the weekend last year, his GP race came to an end after he crashed into Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, with Verstappen leaving marks on Hamilton’s helmet. The 2021 World Cup was an intense battle from first to last meter, but this year Verstappen didn’t have the same resistance at all. He has over 100 points ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ world championship and has won the last four races, despite having started outside the top 10 on two occasions.
However, he didn’t have the same superlative qualifying pace as last year, and this year he has started from the top spot on four occasions. At the same time a year ago, he had eight primary positions.
– We didn’t have the speed for the course during the start of the season, when we didn’t have the speed we had to do right during the race. On two occasions, we were able to take the win with the help of other things like strategy, things that had nothing to do with speed, says Verstappen.
Verstappen with Red Bull until 2028
On his way to his second World Cup title, he is 24 years old and has a contract with Red Bull until 2028.
– It’s really fun to work with the team, and that’s the most important factor for me. If you win and the atmosphere is good, you can evolve, but you have to be patient. Max Verstappen says it is not possible to force the results.
– That’s why I stayed. Sometimes people would have told me it was time to go and seek success elsewhere. But I trust Red Bull and the process we are in. It has paid off. I am really satisfied and happy with where I am now.

Short news ahead of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix
Mercedes has now confirmed that there will be a penalty kick for Lewis Hamilton’s engine at Monza. How many places it applies and components that have not yet been clarified. This weekend is also a good time to take IndyCar, and Marcus Ericsson is one of five drivers with a chance of winning the title. After winning the Indy 500, he finished fourth in the championship led by Will Power. If Bauer takes the podium this weekend, he will win his first title since 2014. Ericsson trails Bauer by 39 points, and gives a win 51 points, so it is imperative that Bauer finish 20th, and win it. Champion Joseph Newgarden (second) or teammate Scott Dixon (currently third) will take the podium.
Felix Rosenqvist, on the other hand, is tenth in the tournament. However, there are only two points separating eight-year-old Colton Herta.

Over the weekend, IndyLights will be ending as well, with Linus Lundqvist returning with the title. The HMD Motorsports driver leads the championship by 103 points over his only remaining competitor Matthew Brabham (Australia). A total of 108 points for victories in the two final races. Victory and Lundqvist become the first Swede to win an IndyCar main support category.
