Thomas Mountain is a new trainer at HV71

Tommy Samuelson and his staff were forced to leave.

Now Sportbladet’s disclosure is confirmed – Tomas Montén takes charge of the HV71.

– It will be a very honorable and exciting job, he said in a press release.

Thomas Montaigne was the junior national team captain between 2019 and 2022, and has coached Timra and Djurgården, among others.

He recently came from Linköping HC, where he worked as an assistant coach to Claes Ostmann.

Now Thomas Montaigne is back as head coach.

– It will be a very exciting and honorable job. I hope to contribute to finding a stable and challenging starting lineup every night,” says the new HV71 coach on the club’s website.

“Young and hungry boss”

– At Thomas, we got a hungry young coach who also gained a lot of experience over the years, both from the SHL and international hockey, says HV71 Sports Director Kent Norberg.

Tommy Samuelsson and his entire coaching staff were dismissed in January, and club manager Johan Lindblom took over as head coach.

Shalle Berglund and Billy Gustafsson were named Lindblom’s assistant coaches.

Billy Gustafsson will remain Thomas Montaigne’s assistant.

– A new card came in earlier this year and has been a strong contributor to improving the defensive game, says Kent Norberg of Gustavsson.

The HV71 narrowly escaped qualification after a strong finish to the season.
