Tingsryd demands replay after smashing shot: ‘parody’

Friday’s Alsvenskan hockey match between Kristianstad and Tingrid was halted after a powerful shot was thrown onto the ice next to visiting goalkeeper Daniel Rosengren.

Now Tingsryd is asking for a rematch.

“Taif is asking for at least a replay of the match and that in a place where safety and a sporting settlement can be guaranteed,” the club says in a letter to the federation according to Smålandzosten.

At the beginning of the third period, a loud bang exploded inside the Ice Hall in Kristianstad. The match was called off with immediate effect, and the Tingsgrid guests made it clear that they did not intend to end the match when a powerful shot partially injured goalkeeper Daniel Rosengren.

The arena was empty of spectators, but after several hours of waiting, news came that the match would take place despite Tingsred’s refusal.

“The last quarter of the match was a farce”

But there was not much hockey in the remaining minutes of the game. Players lined up on the ice, but once they arrived they let the clock go down to zero.

Now Tingsryd chooses to act after the events, something Smålandsposten has written about.

“Al-Taif refers the matter to the Competitions Committee for its evaluation, but at least asks for the match to be replayed in a place where sporting safety and settlement can be ensured. In support of this request, Al-Taif claims that the match was never completed. What happened in the last quarter of the match was a farce. A decision must be based. The competition board refers to the fact that the development of events in the third period equals a match stop,” the club claims in a letter to the competition board of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association.

Criticism: “insensitive”

The letter also outlines Tingsryd’s version of what happened, as criticism is also directed at the federation, referees and Hockeyallsvenskan sport director Eric Riemann. This is because, according to the letter, they more or less forced Tingsryd to end the match to avoid receiving a report.

This is the worst thing Taif has ever experienced. We believe the SIF, referees and HA’s athletic director handled the situation directly and insensitively. The health and well-being of the players were neglected. This is a business environment issue and should be dealt with by decision makers as such. The match was going to end. Everything else is incomprehensible. By their decision, the responsible decision-makers deprived Taif of a fair and sporting opportunity to complete the match. Nobody knows how it ended. Such very dangerous events should be punished for the lack of safety and the destruction of the sport. Accordingly, Al-Taif calls on the Competition Committee to issue a fair punishment in this matter in order to achieve the interests of Al-Taif sports and also to prevent the destruction of hockey by the rioters.”
