Tobias Forsberg is making progress after injury – he can drive

Tobias Forsberg takes a step forward every day in life.

Like he can now drive a car.

– He was very emotional. I cried and laughed. I’ve been behind the wheel a million times, says Forsberg, but I didn’t think it would be like this.

Tobias Forsberg’s life changed completely after he was crippled by a disability.

He now lives with his assistant around the clock and, without assistance or equipment, cannot perform most daily tasks.

But just as he was on the ice, a warrior, making great strides in life with his body and learning new old jobs every day.

Every week I come up with things I thought I couldn’t handle. The challenge is not to mentally lock yourself in to the fact that it’s impossible. Now I’m training to move into bed and I thought that was impossible. He says anything I can do by myself is a great success for me.

And on Instagram, he posted a video of himself driving a car, which sent him into an extreme emotional frenzy.

– I never thought I’d be able to drive a car – again. But the adaptation company made it possible and being able to move yourself is amazing and so important to me and my self-esteem and independence.

– He was very emotional. I cried and laughed. He’s sat at the wheel a million times, but never thought it would be like this, he says about the first ride after the accident at the Tegera Arena.

The car has all the important controls at the steering wheel and around the upper body of the Forsberg. He has flashes in the headrest, for example.

His main job these days is training, job building and lecturing.

– I train four to five times a week and after surgery as my triceps rebuild, new possibilities opened up. It helps me a lot and I feel better.

– Then I give a lecture and now I had my first lecture in English, and it strengthened me that I understood it correctly. It was for a group of chefs and it was a big deal for me because I love food. Back in the day, hockey players were my purists. Now the chefs, he says, are laughing.

Forsberg’s lecture is about dealing with adversity in life. That everyone experiences a setback at some point and how to recover.

It is important to accept adversity. Then you can go back.

He also plans to return to Leksand. But she will have to wait a while.

– My wife Philippa is training to be a police officer, so it must be later. But we’ve always said we’ll turn back at some point.
