Tom Wilson gets a new contract from the Washington Capitals

NHL coach Tom Wilson, 29, was rumored to be on his way away from the Washington Capitals.

But now he has extended his contract with the club, the Capitals announced in a press release.

The new contract runs for seven years (!) and is valued at SEK 480 million.

During his NHL career, the 29-year-old Canadian only represented the Washington Capitals. It is now also clear that he will remain at the club for some time to come.

On Friday, it was announced that Wilson’s contract had been extended — by seven years.

“Tom has what it takes to win this league, and we are very pleased to be able to sign this long-term contract with him, giving him the opportunity to finish his career in a Capitals uniform,” says general manager Brian MacLellan in a press release.

The new contract starts in the 2024/2025 season and extends to the 2030/2031 season. According to the information, the value of the agreement should be 45.5 million kronor, which is approximately 480 million kronor.

Earlier in the summer, rumors abounded that Wilson was available on the commercial market. However, this rumor was denied by Capitals GM, MacLellan.

Wilson was drafted by the Capitals as the 16th pick in the first round in 2012. Since then, he has scored 128 goals and 295 total points in 680 NHL games. Among others, he was involved in saving the Stanley Cup in 2018.
