Top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s World Cup opening match

The 37-year-old star striker was moved to tears before the match

Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, has been making headlines ahead of the World Cup.

In the premiere, the star striker scored in Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana.

In doing so, Ronaldo also became historical.

The interview with Piers Morgan shook the entire football world. Cristiano Ronaldo witnessed a turbulent period of preparation for the World Cup in Qatar, and the day before yesterday he terminated his contract with Manchester United.

But now the 37-year-old got into the restroom – and he did so with a lot of emotion. Regarding the national anthem, Ronaldo was moved to tears.

In addition, he instantly became a top scorer.

A penalty shootout goal

The first half against Ghana ended decidedly goalless and it would take until the 65th minute before a clean sheet was broken. And Ronaldo fell in the penalty area after a duel with Mohamed Salisu, and the referee signaled a penalty kick.

The striker took care of the penalty himself, and certainly made it 1-0. This, in turn, led to scenes of unbridled jubilation, as large parts of the Portuguese team gathered to pay homage to Ronaldo.

In doing so, Ronaldo has scored in five different World Cups – something no other male player has done before.

However, Ghana has not given up on that. Less than ten minutes later, Andre Ayew made it 1-1 from close range. But the Ghanaian joy did not last long.
