Toronto beat Calgary – The Nylander Show

Toronto’s William Nylander (second from right) is embraced by his teammates after a goal.

William Nylander scored two goals as Toronto faced Calgary in the NHL’s Ice Hockey Night Tour.

In total, the Swede had five points in the match and set up another goal for the team in the 5-4 victory.

It took extra time to determine when the two Canadian teams would meet in Toronto. But then it was enough with 43 seconds to play for Mitchell Marner to grab a rebound against Dan Vladar in the Calgary goal.

– It’s no secret that things didn’t go well for us in overtime, Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said after the match.

– A radical change is needed, he continues.

It sure worked this time. Toronto has now won three straight games and 11 of the last 14. But it’s been a bumpy ride to victory this time around.

Decide on extra time

The home team took an early lead through Austin Matthews. But it only lasted a few minutes and Calgary took a 2-1 lead when Nylander equalized just before halftime.

Calgary took the lead again in the second half and Nylander tied it again before halftime.

The same pattern was repeated in the third period, but then it was Toronto’s Michael Bunting who scored the tying goal.

Then finally, Marner’s decisive overtime goal.

– We fought, you have to find ways to win games like this, – sums up Nylander.

– Of course we are happy with our victory and getting two points. I think, after all, we did a lot of good things during the game that helped us get the two points. But I think there was a lot during the game that we didn’t play well and that made it unnecessarily difficult for us. “Tonight’s game was not a good example of how we want to play and as a result it was a mess,” said Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe.
