TV disc: Per Leyden on the summit in Norrbotten: ‘Really competitive’

Do you need to lead the team to win the TV disc?

After the win, Norrbotten’s assistant coach told Per Leiden how they thought.

— For me, tweaking the TV is the first step to getting some serious, he says.

Norbotten The team matched tightly to claim the county’s first TV disc victory in 37 years after a 2-1 final match against Stockholm Seed.

Lulia hockey coach Thomas “Polan” Berglund believes it’s something that can be discussed before future tournaments.

“Of course I saw they played 50 pretty much all the time and that’s boring, he told NSD.

He is also the head coach of Sunderby SK’s J18 team and is preparing for a match against Boden when Sportbladet reaches him. He did not take part in the Berglund interview, but read parts of it to him and give his opinion on the match.

– First of all, disc television is a divided and interesting question now throughout Sweden’s hockey game. For me, the TV tweak is the first step to getting some serious with Sweden’s best 15-year-olds. He says there is a lot of audience, it is broadcast on TV and you can compete on the ground.

“This is how it was all these years.”

Leiden, who has 720 SHL games on his record, finished third in the television disc when he started in 1993.

My eldest son went out in the quarter-finals three years ago. My youngest son was the captain of the team last year, and they didn’t progress. I have seen it up close and now I have the opportunity to participate as a coach. Let’s say there are 167 players in Norrbotten, is it a broad tournament, should everyone join in and play? But you “reduced” 160 players to 100, 60, 45, 30, 20. So I don’t really know how different it would be to go from 20 to 10. Do you understand what I mean?

– That’s how it was for me all these years. Stockholm plays to a few people, everyone plays to a few people. I even think they did it in Pollan’s time if we look at history.

Are you saying it takes a match like this to finish and win the championship?

– wanted. Going and playing matches with too many people wouldn’t be fair either. Tablet TV is a competition. But we win as a team and we lose as a team. We’ve worked a lot in the field of communication. That everyone looks at them, hears them, and feels validated by leaders. We have incredibly fun. Each player was unique in his own way as he made a positive contribution to the group. Leiden says:

Part of the coaching profession is making decisions during matches. I’m sure Pollan agrees with that, too. Who will enter? Then you can look at it afterwards. Damn, did you pick the wrong player or not. Our aim was to win and somewhere I think we at little Norrbotten put in a great performance. Being the best means a lot to the county and the little boys. Creates ripples on the water. We are definitely good here. It’s been 37 years since our last win.

I totally agree with him there.

Experts considered that Norbotten managed to go all this way as a huge shock. Superb goalkeeper Love Härenstam, defender Oliwer Sjöström and striker Jakob Ihs Wozniak stand out, but Leiden continually returns to the team’s strong cohesion.

Our Team Manager Magnus Brännvall was very careful to choose the best team, to find players who make each other better. We’ve chosen not to take out the “best” players individually, but have created a character-focused team.

The journey we made together they will take with them and will remember for the rest of their lives. When they look back at this they say they are winners, you can’t take that away from them.

Per Leyden’s suggestion

Berglund opened up for discussion and said, among other things: “At what price do you have to win?”

– Of course, I totally agree with him there. This issue must be dealt with higher. It’s a question for the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, which in turn should initiate it. I want to become a coach myself, I’m in the process of taking courses, but I have eight matches on my merit list…even though I’ve had 22 years as a player. You have been sidelined in the stands. Then contribute what you can. I am trying to make it clear that it is a complex issue and much larger than that. I don’t know who has the answers. But because I love hockey, I’m completely open to talking, says Lyden before coming up with a suggestion:

– Matches are played on the TV disc twice for 20 minutes. Should you play three periods instead? Then you can’t match players tightly.

‘We’ve had open communications’

Leiden’s teammate Robin Bergstrom, Norrbotten’s head coach, said at NSD the team management was clear that some would already be matched strongly from the first group and that everyone bought it.

– That’s how it is. We have had very open communication with all the players. We talked to them before we left, how they are, how they feel and if it would be fun. We asked how they would view it if it happened that they weren’t allowed to play. We were open about it. In the group stage, we rested our best players in certain periods of matches. Then we went to other men until they had a share, says Lyden.

History has shown that it doesn’t have to be those who stand out at a young age who end up as SHL or NHL stars.

Personally, I’ve always argued that you should have fun. There are going to be tough days and it’s important to find joy when you face setbacks. We must also not forget that the average age for an SHL to first appear, in my understanding, is 25 or 27 years. It is a forgotten thing. That’s a few hundred meters from a marathon to become a hockey player. So love what you do, and have a passion for it. Then you will get where you want. Per Leyden says the slowest win.
