In-form Linköping was on the verge of a strong shift away from Växjö.

But in the penalty shootout, the home team’s captain, Joel Pearson, decided.

– It’s fun when he can show his full record, says Växjö coach Jörgen Jönsson on TV4 Play after the 4-3 win.

Five straight wins brought Linkoping to second place in the SHL doubles table.

But despite the high level, they started poorly against Vaccio.

Brian Cooper and Gabriel Karlsson scored within a few minutes and Växjö ended the first half with a 2-0 lead at the back.

However, the LHC will match all of that and reduce its size twice again. Firstly through Anthony Greco as he scored his first goal in an LHC jersey early in the second and early in the third Patrick Russell made it 2-3.

In the end, even 3-3 will come. Eight minutes before the end of normal time, talented full-back Matthias Havilid equalized with a low shot from the blue line.

Penalties

It took the game until overtime and a penalty shootout but once there, LHC were unable to complete the turnaround.

Joel Persson was the only one to succeed in the shootout and ensured a 4-3 victory for Växjö.

– It is a good team that we are facing and has self-confidence. But we win in the end, and that’s the important thing, says Jurgen Johnson.
